SCC Soft Computer Introduces 90-Day Rapid Implementation Featuring New Product SoftLIMS™

CLEARWATER, Florida—As laboratories prepare for an influx of testing due to COVID-19, SCC has established a rapid implementation of 90-days or less to onboard and accelerate COVID-19 tests.  

SCC’s Rapid Implementation process gets laboratories up and running within 90-days in order to support the rapid growth of current testing within the healthcare marketplace. Starting with identifying the client’s goals such as to minimize manual data entry/electronic documentation, to increase productivity via automation, the idea for many is to streamline the current processes to accelerate resulting as testing increases exponentially as months go on.

Through SCC’s best practice workflows and model framework, the goal of SCC’s implementation process is for laboratories to shorten timeframes allowing for quick adaptation ultimately to speed up the ability for testing and resulting. By placing the software directly into the hands of the laboratorian, this allows for quick adaptation of the user-engagement which ultimately speeds up the testing results. Clients utilizing the cloud based SoftLIMS application can support specimen processing and testing automation from order intake whether it be electronic, drive-thru testing center, web-based order, or even paper-based requisition. This SoftLIMS solution which supports molecular testing within the application has accelerated results, reducing the amount of manual labor therefore increasing turnaround times.

SoftLIMS is a low-cost, cloud based configurable solution designed to provide software support for day-to-day operational automation in clinical, environmental, research, bio banking, and other environments. SCC Soft Computer Remains Committed to Supporting Our Valued Clients During the COVID-19 Pandemic

In light of the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) developments, we would like to share with you the measures we are taking to protect the health and safety of our staff, clients, and vendors—as well as to mitigate business impacts. SCC is stable and operational, and we are here to partner with our clients throughout this emergency and beyond. We have aligned internal resources with COVID-19 demands in those areas impacted the most: our SoftLab family of products and our Instruments and Interfaces business units.

SCC Soft Computer has a detailed business continuity plan, which has been activated, and we are convening regular meetings with our teams across our worldwide operations. We have invested in our technology infrastructure to provide you with seamless service in the event that we might be required to temporarily close an office and/or switch to a full-time remote working model for our staff. We are mindful of the situation, and we’re monitoring it very closely to avoid and/or mitigate any potential impacts to SCC, or any disruptions in service. We want you to know that we are doing everything we can to both protect our staff and to minimize the risk of disruption to our business—and yours.

What is SCC Soft Computer doing?

In addition to activating our business continuity plan, we have taken steps across our global organization to help protect our staff and prevent infection at our facilities. Some of these steps include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Educating staff about the virus and sharing resources on how to keep the workplace clean
  • Increasing the sanitizing and cleaning routines already in place in our facilities
  • Encouraging our staff to use good hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing and/or the use of hand sanitizer
  • Implementing a temporary remote work schedule for our staff to reduce the risk of possible exposure
  • Restricting business travel for all staff and canceling all non-essential travel
  • Asking staff members to disclose their recent travel history before facility entry is granted or denying access to those who have traveled to/through/from high-risk areas – or have been in direct contact with those who have
  • Requiring staff to work from home during a self-quarantine period if they have traveled to/through/from high-risk areas – or have been in direct contact with those who have
  • Limiting gatherings, postponing events, and utilizing virtual methods to connect with our clients and staff to allow for appropriate social distancing and the safety of attendees | All meetings and training are being conducted via virtual methods (e.g., WebEx, Skype, etc.)
  • Restricting access to all SCC facilities for the health and safety of our staff by suspending visitor access | All doors will be accessible only by employee badge/ security access card for all those who are approved to be in the building
  • Implementing additional safety measures for carriers who pick up and deliver to our facilities for an added layer of protection and the safety of all involved

Instrument projects:

  • SCC is prioritizing COVID-19 and related testing.
  • We are streamlining new instrument quoting and installation procedures to have these live and able to produce results as quickly as possible.
  • We are prioritizing support tasks for testing on currently interfaced instruments with SoftLab, Instrument, and Interface support.

RefLab interfaces |standard and reverse:

  • SCC is prioritizing COVID-19 and related testing.
  • We will be making efforts to compress implementation to get the ordering and resulting of prioritized tests live quickly.
  • We are working with our clients and understand that you have competing priorities during this emergency. We’re here to support you and provide any assistance we can.

SCC Soft Computer Joins Healthcare Professionals All Over the Globe to Fight the Battle Against COVID-19

 In times like these it is especially important that the design and flexibility of SCC applications allow for seamless integration of new COVID-19 testing while allowing hospitals and laboratories worldwide to alter their operations to accommodate safe-distancing measures. As SCC provides the necessary support healthcare professionals require under these exigent circumstances, SCC’s customers have reached out to share their stories of gratitude to SCC staff and leadership.

Success Stories:

COVID-19 is demanding more from healthcare providers and creating new responsibilities for clients. In an effort to keep patients safe, SCC’s client in Cleveland, OH is utilizing SCC web-based applications (SoftWebPlus®) in their new drive-thru testing centers. This functionality gives hospitals the ability to now remotely register the patient using the SoftWebPlus® application, as well as produce barcodes for test samples gathered from onsite drive-thru collection facilities, removing the need to even enter the building. Not only does this expedite testing, it also ensures the samples received are accurately identified when processed.

Another client utilizing SCC Soft Computer’s SoftLab® application expressed the ability to run countless tests through the flexibility and functionality of the software, in turn making them one of the first laboratories in the state of Michigan to perform in-house COVID-19 testing. Not only does SoftLab® support the rapid demand of testing, it also provides laboratories the ability to push instrument interfaces into production within days, rather than weeks, allowing greater volume and shorter turnaround than previous methods.

A leading health system in Boston, Massachusetts, which is at the forefront of testing in the New England area, contacted SCC once they had the testing equipment onsite. SCC’s team immediately engaged with them to install the appropriate software, thereby allowing them the ability to not only complete testing but also, equally as important, start submitting real-time results to the state agencies within two days.
