SCC’s professional consulting services and managed

services offerings can help address staffing shortages

I n Q3 2018, SCC introduced our professional consulting services and

managed services offerings. Since then, we’ve been successful in our
continued expansion of these services to our global client base. Our
professional services offerings include Staff Augmentation and LIS Medical
Technologist Recruitment. We offer dedicated short- and long-term human
resources and recruitment services to help our clients address the increasing
                                        clinical laboratory workforce shortage.

Nationwide, the pool of candidates in medical technology continues to shrink even as the job descriptions
continue to get more and more complex. Attracting medical laboratory professionals—in particular those
with advanced degrees and industry certifications—is becoming even more of a challenge. 1,2

This shortage, which has been decades in the making, has impacted SCC for many years. SCC
is unique in the healthcare IT industry. We’re an organization that hires individuals who possess
domain expertise, and we train them from the ground up. We hire medical technologists for a
variety of key positions (e.g., product specialist, business analyst, and technical support specialist),
and we transition their skills sets from medical technology to information technology. We rely on
the subject matter expertise of these experts, and the increasing challenges in attracting these SMEs
has made the retention of our existing employees a priority.

Clinical laboratory work has always been a behind-the-scenes profession, so relatively few people
know about the variety of careers available in this field of medicine—and even fewer are aware
of the vital contribution to patient care and clinical diagnostics made by medical laboratory
                 professionals.

Professional organizations are working to better promote the clinical laboratory field and raise
awareness of this vital field of medicine. In the meantime, information technology continues to
play a valuable role in enabling laboratories to do more in less time and help laboratories address
staffing challenges. As the leader in laboratory and genetics information management systems, SCC
Soft Computer is dedicated to embracing the challenges presented by the shrinking workforce. We
develop solutions that help modernize and optimize workflow so laboratory professionals can focus
their expertise on the diagnostic part of their work rather than on mundane manual tasks.
