SCC Soft Computer awarded funds from Florida’s Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) stimulus grant

October 20, 2009

(Clearwater, FL) – SCC Soft Computer (SCC), a leader in laboratory information systems (LIS) development, was awarded funds from the State of Florida Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) American Recovery Act (stimulus) grant to use towards the Company’s employee training program. SCC’s learning program assists in the training of customer support, quality control, IT, and administrative functions. This continuing education for SCC staff will enable the Company to remain a leader in the highly competitive healthcare informatics marketplace.

Many of SCC’s training programs assist employees with a high level of external client contact in improving relationships with the customer base, ensuring retention of those customers, and increasing referrals. Training programs are intended for different departments throughout the Company and will ultimately lower employee turnover and will improve the long-term wage levels of trainees, thus increasing the Company’s profitability.

“Receiving funds from the Incumbent Worker Training stimulus grant is a great benefit to SCC,” observes Don Keller, SCC’s Vice President of Global Education and Training. “This is an incentive for employees to continue with education and certifications. With these funds, SCC staff can attend courses that will broaden their expertise in specified fields, which will enable SCC to remain a leader in this niche market.” At SCC, we pride ourselves on our training program and will help improve leadership by providing the tools and skills to deal with rapid industry change and with new product lines.”

In just over 10 years, SCC has assembled one of the finest professional training teams in the healthcare information technology industry. In 1998, SCC offered 17 instructor-led courses to its clients and 240 employees. Within just three years, the Educational Services department was expanded to an organization that now serves over 1,500 employees and over 6,000 clients with a training staff of 40+ worldwide.

Today, SCC offers 14,000+ courses to its clients and staff, including instructor-led classes, self-paced computer-based training, internally-created HTML courses, and training classes on CD. The success of the department is attributable in part to grant funding, and the 2009 IWT stimulus grant marks the fifth time SCC has been awarded IWT funding by the state of Florida since 2000. It’s no coincidence that SCC has also been ranked in Training magazine’s Top 125 seven times since 2002, ranking third in 2009, for excellence in workforce training and leadership development. The additional funds have enabled the Company to expand its training program and establish SCC as an organization that recognizes the importance of training and continuing education, and values the contributions made by well-trained employees.
