SCC Soft Computer wins an ASTD "BEST Award"

October 6, 2009

(Clearwater, FL) October 5, 2009 – SCC Soft Computer (SCC) is proud to announce that it ranked third in the American Society for Training & Development’s 2009 BEST Awards program. SCC is among 39 organizations from Canada, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, and the United States to receive an ASTD BEST Award. All winners are recognized in a special section of the October 2009 issue of Training + Development (T+D), ASTD’s monthly magazine.
Members of SCC’s Educational Services department received the ASTD BEST Award during a reception held in Washington, D.C. on October 1. The following day, many of the winning organizations gave presentations about their learning and development practices during the “Learn from the BEST” professional development event.
SCC is committed to combining the most effective technologies, innovative designs, and production methodologies to create cost effective solutions that enhance the productivity and competitiveness of its clients. SCC’s Educational Services department (EDS) takes a blended learning approach to education and training and offers multiple methods to enable SCC clients and staff to become expert users of SCC’s robust healthcare information system software applications.
“In just over 10 years, we’ve built SCC’s Educational Services department from the ground up and assembled one of the finest professional training teams in the healthcare information technology industry,” says Don Keller, SCC’s Vice President of Global Education & Development and CLO. “In February 1998, SCC offered 17 instructor-led courses to its clients and 240 employees. Within just three years, we created a department that today serves over 1,500 professional staff members and consultants as well as over 6,000 external clients with a training staff of 40+ worldwide. We currently offer 14,000+ courses to SCC's clients and staff, including instructor-led classes, computer-based (CBT) and Web-based (WBT) courses, locally created HTML courses, and training courses on CD.”
Mr. Keller continues, “The growth of SCC’s Educational Services department has been fueled by several factors, including a need for better client training and an exponential increase in the number of employees. The success of the department can be attributed to our dedicated and talented team of LIS trainers and subject matter experts, professional development staff, instructional designers and course developers, and communication specialists. SCC is an organization that recognizes the importance of training and continuing education, and values the contributions made by well-trained employees.”
The ASTD BEST Awards recognize organizations that demonstrate enterprise-wide success through employee learning and development. According to Tony Bingham, ASTD’s president and CEO, “The ASTD BEST Award winners set the standard of excellence for exceptional learning practices, and demonstrate that a skilled workforce is vital to achieving results. They use learning as a strategic tool and have the support of senior leaders who champion a learning culture.”
Through an online application, the 2009 BEST Awards received entries from 93 organizations in 10 countries. These organizations submitted quantitative and qualitative information to ASTD about their learning and development practices and programs. Their applications were assessed by members of the BEST Awards advisory committee, a group of experts in the learning and development field.
This is the seventh year of the ASTD BEST Awards. More information about the 2009 ASTD BEST Award winners may be found in the October 2009 issue of T+D magazine and online: www.astd.org/best. Details about the 2010 ASTD BEST Awards program will be available next February.
