St Mary’s Duluth Clinic Receives 2008 SMDC “Soul & Science” Award

Clearwater, FL- St Mary’s Duluth Laboratories is the recipient of the 2008 SMDC Soul and Science Honorable Mention Award. Each year SMDC recognizes the departments, initiatives or programs that exemplify high standards in quality care and patient safety by awarding the “Soul and Science Award.” The award is based on the six guiding principles developed by the National Academy of Science. These principles state that health care should be safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, equitable and efficient.
SMDC Laboratories submitted a nomination for the Soul and Science Award based on LIS automation, reporting on a joint project between SCC Soft Computer and Beckman Coulter, utilizing SCC Soft Computer products. (SoftLab, SoftMic & SoftPath.) “Working with the team at SMDC and sharing a common goal equals great success to overall patient care,” says Sue Hughes, Director of Implementation, SCC Soft Computer. “Improving systems in the laboratory environment has a direct correlation in improving the overall patient-family experience. At SCC we take into consideration what our clients need to make their facilities more functional on a daily basis and use that information towards the development of new products and the enhancement of existing products,” Hughes added.
Utilizing the SCC Soft Computer products in laboratory services, SMDC realized the following achievements.
