New Blood Donor Software with Microsoft® .NET Connection User Interface Receives FDA Clearance

November 14, 2005

PALM HARBOR, FL- SCC Soft Computer’s new SoftDonor®, with a SoftScape™ user interface, received 510(k) Clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) earlier this month. The software product has undergone the FDA’s strict review process, and has demonstrated it is safe and effective compared to predicate (similar) devices. The new SoftScape user interface, built on Microsoft® .NET connection software technology, now provides a graphical screen and field presentation of SoftDonor. With the previous release of SoftBank®II in .NET this past year, SCC Soft Computer is currently the only vendor to offer a complete Blood Services Suite to the market in the newest .NET technology.

“SCC’s SoftScape SoftDonor product has been the culmination of an entire year of development and testing; from product inception, to submission to the FDA,” says Joelle Carastro, SoftDonor Product Manager of SCC Soft Computer . “We are thrilled with news of the swift clearance.” SCC received FDA clearance of SoftDonor, it’s powerful blood donor decision support software, in a brief ten weeks after submission of the product to the agency. The FDA requires that most devices, including software intended for direct human use, go through the 510(k) application process.

“We view this as part of a new chapter, where we’re rolling out another cutting-edge technology in the industry,” states Gilbert Hakim, CEO of SCC Soft Computer. “SCC is continuing the uninterrupted delivery of our latest research and development to the healthcare marketplace.” Integrated across the Microsoft platform, .NET allows businesses to quickly utilize anytime, anywhere solutions, on nearly any device. With .NET’s many features and advantages, hospital and laboratory administrators are finding it an easy technology to deploy in many different environments. With the first version only released in 2002, it is gaining considerable momentum and has created valuable cost and time saving opportunities for hundreds of hospital laboratories and leading high tech companies alike. Ms. Carastro points out that the new SoftDonor should translate well for people already using GUI, and will allow for the use of a mouse if desired. With the new screens in .NET, the user has comprehensive sorting capabilities, and can find items faster than ever.

“SoftDonor has comprehensive safety built right into the program,” states Carastro. “SCC’s premier donor management product is recognized for its overall high level of customization, and flexible features such as on-line donor screening that most other donor management products don’t even offer,” she goes on to say.

The system’s advanced donor testing features include user-defined test algorithms that can automatically generate eligibility deferrals and update notifications. The donor recruitment features allow the user many opportunities for modern technology recruitment with e-mail and telecommunication options, allowing the user to become nearly paperless if desired. Also, SoftDonor has superior multi-site capabilities, including allowing individual locations to manage their own inventory and supplies, and their own donations; all while sharing donor demographics among sites.

SCC’s SoftDonor is one of the most proven, dependable systems currently available on the market. Uniquely positioned as a stand-alone system, or as a part of SCC’s integrated LIS or Blood Services Suite, the module allows knowledgeable users to efficiently conduct and safely manage daily critical tasks, ensuring a safe blood supply. SoftDonor began development in 1998 under the company’s regimented Software Development Life Cycle guidelines, which includes specific phases of design development and testing, and a system of checks for internal or external
agency review.
