Known as a renowned rescue, rehabilitation, and release facility, the marina has been a Clearwater, Florida local since 1972. Ranging from various types of sea life, the local organization aims to protect marine animals and is most well-known for Winter the Dolphin! Winter was a beloved bottlenose dolphin who had been injured and lost her tail after being caught in a crab trap. Through the kind efforts and determination of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, they were able to help Winter by attaching a prosthetic tail to the end of her body. In doing so, the dolphin was seen as a figure that represented the care and importance these facilities hold within their respected communities. The film, Dolphin Tale, was created in honor of the marina and Winter. Starring Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, and Harry Connick Jr., the movie showed the beauty of Clearwater.
