LIMS for Molecular Testing

LIMS for Molecular Testing
With Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) playing a critical role in the speed and efficiency of today’s molecular testing, it’s essential for laboratory managers and other stakeholders to understand the impact LIMS can have and how to choose the software that’s best for them. Here at SCC Soft Computer, we know it can be an overwhelming research process – but we are here to break it all down in this blog post.

Molecular testing is also referred to as molecular diagnostics and molecular diagnostics testing.

What Is Molecular Testing?
The National Cancer Institute defines molecular testing as “a laboratory method that uses a sample of tissue, blood, or other body fluid to check for certain genes, proteins, or other molecules that may be a sign of a disease or condition, such as cancer.” [1] Additionally, it is used to help develop and assess individual patient treatment plans and, in some cases, to determine an individual’s risk of developing certain types of cancer.

How LIMS Supports Molecular Testing

Molecular testing capabilities have seen significant advancements in recent history, allowing healthcare providers and patients critical time to accurately detect illnesses and develop effective treatment plans. With LIMS, laboratory technicians can help ensure biospecimen and data traceability which in turn allows healthcare providers to develop effective treatment plans at a faster pace.

“SCC’s LIMS software was designed to improve the daily operations, workflow, and efficiencies for our laboratory partners,” says Gilbert Hakim, CEO of SCC Soft Computer. “Our team takes tremendous pride in knowing this technology is helping healthcare providers and patients develop faster and more effective treatment plans to help improve outcomes.”

Getting Started With LIMS for Molecular Testing

When choosing LIMS software to support your laboratory’s molecular testing capabilities, its essential to consider your lab’s specific needs, your IT architecture, and budget. At SCC, we know this can be a complex process – and our team is here to help simplify it so you can make the best decision.
